What is Full Mouth Reconstruction?
It's a comprehensive restorative dentistry treatment designed to combat several oral health issues at once. It can include a number of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. Unlike a smile makeover, which is solely cosmetic, full mouth reconstruction refers to treatment that is medically necessary for a patient to sustain their oral health.
The treatment can address tooth decay, excessive tooth wear, tooth loss, gum disease, bone deterioration and gum recession. Ultimately, it helps restore function to the mouth so that patients can speak and eat comfortably.
Over the years, Dr. Durán has helped many patients rebuild their smiles, including patients with extremely worn dentition. Regardless of the severity of your condition, he can help.
Who is a Candidate for Full Mouth Reconstruction?
Full mouth reconstruction is recommended for patients experiencing significant oral health problems that require dental work on the entirety of the mouth. Patients should abstain from smoking or drinking alcohol, as both contribute to infection in the mouth, and adopt good oral hygiene habits to be practiced during and after treatment to ensure long-term success.
During an initial consultation, Dr. Durán performs a thorough analysis. He examines the patient and works closely with them to determine the underlying causes behind their health issues, their individual habits, and their expectations. The examination may include X-rays as well as impressions. He also explains all procedure options and addresses any questions before making recommendations.
The Treatment
Full mouth reconstruction often involves several different restorative procedures performed over the course of several months. During an initial appointment, Dr. Durán devises a treatment plan in accordance with the patient's needs.
Depending on the goal of treatment, it may include:
- Dental Crowns
- Inlays / Onlays
- Dental Bridges
- Dentures
- TMJ Treatment
